30-21038-1 RailKing - 2022 Special Projects Patrick’s Trains Jersey Central (Green) FM H10-44 Diesel Engine RD# 9703 In late 1967, the Baltimore & Ohio leased 10 Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 switcher locomotives to the power short Jersey Central...B&O numbered 9700-9709 and painted in the current B&O 'blue dip' with yellow chassis stripe paint scheme. Original plan was to only just have any B&O identification painted over and then have a CENTRAL RAILROAD OF NEW JERSEY Statue of Liberty logo applied below the cab window and on the ends still keeping the same 9700 series roadnumbers. However, it seems that the painters at the CRRNJ's E'port Shops didn't get the message right away and immediately painted B&O #9700 and #9703, the first leased locomotives to arrive, from B&O blue/yellow into CRRNJ solid green #9700 and #9703. Before these 2 locomotives were released from the paint shop on a Friday afternoon, a CRRNJ official found out and immediately ordered a repainting into the former B&O blue/yellow version the next day. No actual photos are known to exist of these 2 locomotives in CRRNJ green but this story was told by one member of that paint crew. On the CRRNJ almost anything was possible!
